Comprehensive horse care practice, located in Clarke County, just outside Berryville at 1236 Kimble Rd., one mile off Rt. 7 and 2 miles from the intersection of Rts 7 and 340 - easy to find and easy to access. We are available to serve the entire northern Shenandoah Valley region and the outlying areas of Washington, DC. This includes parts of Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland. Our clinic facility is set up to handle any intermediate care case and we have a good working relationship with all area surgical facilities. We are prepared to take care of your every need in the area of equine health care!

Meet Dr. Mitchell Rode - Founder of Clarke Equine - Wellness & Performance
Mitchell Rode, DVM
Dr. Rode is the founder and owner of Clarke Equine - Wellness and Performance. He began the practice in 1987 under the name Equine Medical Services. Dr. Rode has always been a strong proponent of preventive care. General medicine, with a special interest in breeding and foal care, has been the backbone of his practice through the years. The name of the practice was changed in 2011 to reflect our commitment to emphasizing the importance of preventive care for optimum performance in our equine athletes, while still maintaining our ongoing commitment to wellness that has always been the hallmark of Dr. Rode's approach to equine health care.
In addition to the practice, Dr. Rode has been involved in organized equine veterinary medicine at both a regional and national level. He maintains memberships in the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association (VVMA) the Virginia Thoroughbred Association (VTA), the West Virginia Thoroughbred Breeders Association (WVTBA) and the Virginia Association of Equine Practitioners (VAEP). He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) and currently serves as AAEP Treasurer. Prior to his Board service, Dr. Rode served as a member of the Leadership Development Committee and the Educational Programs Committee. He also served as Chair of the Equine Business Management Subcommittee and the Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee of the AAEP. During his time on the Board Dr Rode served as liaison to the Foundation for the Horse's Advisory Council. In his current role as Treasurer, he also chairs the Finance Committee.
Dr. Rode has been involved in the local community, serving as a Coach as well as President of the Clarke County Little League, as a Junior Varsity Baseball coach at Clarke County High School, and as a Director on the Board of the Clarke County Education Foundation. He has served on the Board of the Clarke County Equine Alliance and is currently Vice-President of the Winchester Royals, a non-profit NCAA summer league baseball team.
